You just need to make more stuff and sell it. You get less money, you get less exp. I was making fine steel 2 handed sword and selling them for around 15k. Some high skill smithing jobs yielded me 50k-90k if they were happy with the finished product. I hadnt unlocked all the different blades yet though.

By completing special, high-paying Orders, you will get parts and experience in almost no time.
